What are dental implants?
Dental implants are prosthetic tooth roots made of titanium, zirconium, or other biocompatible materials that look like screws and are surgically inserted into the jawbone to support detachable or permanent replacement teeth.
Does dental insurance cover implant procedures?
Each insurance company determines whether they cover dental implant treatment. The amount that dental insurance companies will cover for implants varies.
Can everyone have dental implants?
Although implants are clinically proven to be safe and effective, high-risk patients with severe gum disease, jawbone deterioration, and smoking problems may not qualify for the traditional implant placement. HOWEVER, Dr. Twiss is skilled and experienced in several Specialized Implant Procedures that allow many of those who were once denied implants to have a beautiful smile supported by dental implants.
What happens in a dental implant procedure?
Dr. Twiss will cut through the gums to access the jawbone, then drill a hole to insert the implant. Once the implant is in place, he will replace the gum tissue and connect an abutment to the implant. This abutment will hold the temporary crown, which will cover the implant and allow it to heal for at least 6 months. Once the implant has healed and fully fused with the jawbone, we will replace the temporary crown with a permanent one.
Is the implant procedure painful?
To help you avoid any discomfort during the implant placement process, we provide local anesthesia and sedation options. You may experience some pain after the initial surgery, but Dr. Twiss will prescribe painkillers to help ease the discomfort.
Why are dental implants better than traditional dentures or bridges?
Dental implants will not move or shift while you speak or eat, like dentures or bridges, since they are firmly attached to your jawbone. They also prevent jawbone loss and help maintain your natural facial structure. Dental implants are durable, long-lasting solutions for replacing missing teeth.
What if I’m missing most of my teeth?
At Denver Implant Center, we offer All-on-X dental implants that can replace a full set of missing upper or lower teeth. It involves inserting 4 to 6 dental implants into your jawbone to serve as strong, stable roots for a complete row of teeth.
